Today, Gov. John Bel Edwards announced the appointment of Dr. Adren O. Wilson as Deputy Chief of Staff for Programs and Planning within the Office of the Governor. Dr. Wilson will oversee constituent services, community outreach, faith-based initiatives, disability affairs, elderly affairs, the office of drug policy, the office of women’s policy, the Louisiana Children’s Cabinet and other program areas within the Governor’s Office. He will begin working in the administration in March.

“Dr. Wilson is an exciting addition to our team and will bring years of government, non-profit and public policy expertise to our work in service to the people of Louisiana,” said Gov. John Bel Edwards. “With deep roots right here in Louisiana, I know that he will help us grapple with the great challenges before us as we work to improve the quality of life and opportunities for all Louisianans.”

In order to join the Edwards administration, Dr. Wilson is transitioning from his role as CEO of Public Allies, an AmeriCorps national service program, where he recently led an expansion of the organization’s reach in the Gulf South and into New Orleans. He has experience in workforce development, community college retention, education and anti-poverty work. Dr. Wilson previously served both Democratic and Republican governors as Assistant Secretary at the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services. He also served as executive director of the Louisiana Children’s Cabinet, and initiated policy reforms such as the passage of the first state-level Earned Income Tax Credit in the South.

"I am extremely humbled and excited to work for Governor Edwards and the people of Louisiana in this important role,” said Dr. Wilson. “Louisiana is moving in the right direction and I am thrilled to serve."
