Today, Gov. John Bel Edwards ordered the flags of the United States and the state of Louisiana to be flown at half-staff over the State Capitol and all public buildings until sunset on Friday, March 23, 2018 in honor of Louisiana giant, Tom Benson.
“We lost one of our great ambassadors, but his mark will be left on New Orleans and the rest of our state for generations,” said Gov. Edwards. “As we walk through the streets of New Orleans, we’ll think of Tom Benson. As we cheer on the Saints and the Pelicans, we’ll think of Tom Benson. Donna and I pray for his wife, Gayle, and his family during this difficult time.”
Mr. Benson was the long-time owner of the New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Pelicans. Instrumental in the decision to keep the team located in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina, he is revered as someone how helped keep hope alive during such a challenging time for the city.
