Governor Jindal Signs Legislation to Eliminate Inactive Boards and Commissions

BATON ROUGE – Today, Governor Bobby Jindal signed HB 314 by Representative Johnny Berthelot, which eliminates eleven state boards and commissions that are inactive, can be absorbed by other existing boards or agencies or have fulfilled their original mission. The legislation is part of the Governor’s 2012 legislative package.

Governor Jindal said, “Since entering office, we have eliminated over 100 boards and commission, and this law continues our progress to streamline services and make government more efficient.”

Boards and Commissions To Be Eliminated: 

Board of Directors for Regional Education Service Centers
Reason to Eliminate: The services of the board were incorporated into the La. Dept. of Education in 2011, and the board was left on the books.

Board of Directors for the Louisiana Infrastructure Bank
Reason to Eliminate: The purpose of this board was repealed by the Legislature in 2011, however the board remained on the books.

Council of 100 
Reason to Eliminate: This council is inactive.

Governor's State Manpower Services Council
Reason to Eliminate: This council is inactive.

Louisiana Higher Education Executive Advisory Committee
Reason to Eliminate: The legislative auditor recommended that this advisory committee be abolished because the advisory committee is inactive. 

Advisory Council of the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium for Research and Education
Reason to Eliminate: The legislative auditor recommended that this advisory council be abolished because the advisory council is inactive. 

Minority Health Professions Education Foundation
Reason to Eliminate: This council is inactive.

Ozarks Regional Commission
Reason to Eliminate: This commission is inactive.

Post-Secondary Education Review Commission
Reason to Eliminate: This commission has completed its mission.

Louisiana Political Museum and Hall of Fame Advisory Board
Reason to Eliminate: The legislative auditor recommended that this advisory board be abolished because the advisory board was never fully organized.

Executive Committee of the Louisiana Systemic Initiatives Program Council
Reason to Eliminate: The legislative auditor recommended that this executive committee be abolished because it is inactive.
