Governor Jindal Announces Millions Approved for Capital Region Capital Outlay Construction Projects

BATON ROUGE – Today, Governor Bobby Jindal announced that the State Bond Commission approved millions of dollars for projects in the Capital Region. 

Governor Bobby Jindal said, “Investing in these key projects throughout the Capital Region will continue to improve our state's health care services and infrastructure. We'll continue making strategic investments like these around our state to improve the quality of life for our people and make this region more attractive to companies that want to invest in our state and create jobs."

Capital Region projects submitted to the State Bond Commission include:
  • $1 million in funding for widening Hooper Road to four lanes (Blackwater Bayou to Sullivan Road), planning, engineering, utilities and construction in East Baton Rouge Parish with an additional $8.165 million in future Priority 5 funding for a total investment of $9.165 million;
  • $800,000 in funding for boat launch rehabilitations on LA Hwy 42 at the Amite River, planning and construction in Ascension Parish;
  • $500,000 in funding for LA Hwy. 22 improvements (LA Hwy. 16 to the Diversion Canal), planning and construction in Livingston Parish;
  • $360,000 in funding for the Julius Freyhan Cultural and Conference Center, planning and construction in West Feliciana Parish with an additional $2.89 million in future Priority 5 funding for a total investment of $3.25 million;
  • $300,000 in funding for the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center Recreational Complex, planning and construction in Ascension Parish;
  • $275,000 in funding to expand, repair, and modify Central's drainage system, planning and construction in East Baton Rouge Parish;
  • $270,000 in funding for an emergency communications center, planning and construction in East Feliciana Parish;
  • $260,000 in funding for the New Roads Community Park redevelopment, planning and construction in Point Coupee Parish;
  • $200,000 in funding for regional fence line monitoring, planning and equipment in Point Coupee Parish;
  • $200,000 in funding for a USDA Veterinary Biologic facility, planning and construction in East Baton Rouge Parish;
  • $190,000 in funding for renovations to the Sheriff's Office Administration Building in Greensburg, planning and construction in St. Helena Parish;
  • $170,000 in funding for the Baker Fire Training facility, planning and construction in East Baton Rouge Parish;
  • $170,000 in funding for the replacement of the emergency water filter system at the Louisiana State Penitentiary, planning and construction in West Feliciana Parish;
  • $160,000 in funding for water tower repairs and improvements, planning and construction in East Feliciana Parish;
  • $120,000 in funding for the purchase and installation of a law enforcement surveillance system in Livonia, planning and construction in Point Coupee Parish;
  • $120,000 in funding for a government/multi-purpose facility in Maringouin, planning and construction in Iberville Parish;
  • $100,000 in funding for renovations to the District 9 Fire Station, planning and construction in Livingston Parish;
  • $100,000 in funding for the Baton Rouge Metro Airport Aviation Business Park, planning and construction in East Baton Rouge Parish with an additional $250,000 in future Priority 5 funding for a total investment of $350,000;
  • $70,000 in funding for water system improvements in Zachary, planning and construction in East Baton Rouge Parish;
  • $70,000 in funding for emergency generators at the Dixon Correctional Institute, planning and construction in East Feliciana Parish;
  • $50,000 in funding for the Livingston Parish Regional Airport, planning and construction in Livingston Parish;
