Nov 05, 2012 BATON ROUGE - Today, Governor Bobby Jindal announced reappointments to the Statewide Independent Living Council. The Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC) was created in accordance with federal guidelines to develop and sign, in conjunction with the Office of Louisiana Rehabilitation Services (LRS) of the Department of Social Services, a state plan for independent living services and then monitor, review, and evaluate the implementation of the plan. The plan addresses the needs of specific disability populations and independent living issues that impact Louisiana. According to executive order BJ 08-73, the council is comprised of a maximum of twenty-one gubernatorial appointments including the following:
Reappointments to the Statewide Independent Living Council: Wayne Blackwell, of Albany, is disabled and has been an advocate for veterans and paralyzed veterans for many years. Blackwell will be reappointed to serve as a representative of advocates of and for individuals with disabilities, as required by statute. Paige Kelly, of Baton Rouge, is the Program Coordinator for the Independent Living Program at Louisiana Rehabilitation Services. Kelly will be reappointed to serve as a director of a vocational rehabilitation program in the state, as required by statute. ### |
