BATON ROUGE - Today, Governor Bobby Jindal announced the appointment of Harry Morrel to the State Police Commission.
The State Police Commission serves as the final authority over the administration of the State Police Service.
According to the Louisiana Constitution of 1974, the commission is comprised of seven members including one member elected by the classified members of the State Police Service. The remaining six members are gubernatorial appointments representing each of the seven congressional districts, selected from nominations submitted by each of the state’s major private universities, including Centenary College of Louisiana, Dillard University, Louisiana College, Loyola University, Tulane University and Xavier University of Louisiana. If any nominating authority fails to submit nominees in the time required, or if one of the named institutions ceases to exist, the governor shall make the appointment to the commission.
Harry Morel, of Luling, is a part-time Assistant District Attorney and was the former District Attorney of St. Charles Parish. Morel will be appointed to serve as a representative of the 3rd Congressional District, as required by statute.
