Governor Bobby Jindal Announces the Appointment of Anita Millings to the Animal Welfare Commission

BATON ROUGE - Today, Governor Bobby Jindal announced appointment of Anita Millings to the Animal Welfare Commission.

The Animal Welfare Commission is an entity within the Governor's Office of Community Programs that strives to ensure and promote the proper treatment and well-being of animals.

According to the statute, the commission is composed of eleven members including the executive director of the Governor's Office of Community Programs or their designee. The remaining ten members are the following gubernatorial appointments, subject to senate confirmation:

One representative of the Department of Health and Hospitals;
One at-large small animal veterinarian;
One director of a public animal control agency;
One commercial breeder of dogs;
Three representatives from different humane societies or private animal shelters;
One representative of the Louisiana State Police;
Two representatives selected from nominations submitted by the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association;
One representative of the Louisiana Quarter Horse Association;
One representative of the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association; and
One at-large member.

Anita Millings, of Baton Rouge, is the Executive Management Officer of External Affairs at the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals. Millings will be appointed to serve at the representative of the Department of Health and Hospitals, as required by statute.
