Gov. Jindal Announces Capital Outlay Funding for Central Louisiana Region

BATON ROUGE – Today, Governor Bobby Jindal announced the capital construction proposal for the next fiscal year (FY 2014), which includes millions in funding for projects in Central Louisiana. The proposal was submitted Monday to the Legislature in the form of House Bill 2. 

Governor Jindal said, “In order to keep Central Louisiana thriving, we are investing in critical infrastructure projects that will make this region more attractive to companies that want to invest and create jobs.”

Key projects include:
  • $1 million for planning and construction for the relocation of Central Louisiana State Hospital to Pinecrest in Rapides Parish, with $10 million in Priority 5 funding for a total investment of $11 million;
  • $1 million for the development of a Slackwater Port on the Mississippi River in Concordia Parish, with $5 million in Priority 5 funding for a total investment of $6 million;
  • $3.675 million for the planning and construction of the Vernon/ Fort Polk Thoroughfare Plan in Vernon Parish;
  • $1.58 million for planning and construction of drainage improvements in Catahoula Parish;
  • $1 million for planning and construction of the Mississippi River Levee Raising from Arkansas to Old River in Avoyelles, Concordia, East Carroll, Madison, Pointe Coupee and Tensas Parishes;
  • $745,000 for planning and construction for the extension of potable water line to Hutton in Vernon Parish;
  • $600,000 for planning and construction for rehabilitation and/ or replacement of lift stations and equipment in Vernon Parish;
  • $245,000 for planning and construction for rehabilitation of an elevated water tank in Rosepine in Vernon Parish;
  • $200,000 for planning and construction of an emergency connection for the Anacoco Water System in Vernon Parish;
  • $180,000 for planning and construction for the rehabilitation of an elevated water tank in Hornbeck in Vernon Parish.
The Division of Administration’s Office of Facility Planning and Control annually prepares the capital outlay bill, submitting it to the Legislature on the eighth day of the legislative session.
