The Governor's Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Program is funded through the Title IV "No Child Left Behind Act of 2001" that is administered by the United States Department of Education. Title IV supports programs that prevent violence in and around schools; prevent the illegal use of alcohol, tobacco and drugs; involve parents and communities; and are coordinated with related Federal, State, school and community efforts and resources to foster a safe and drug-free learning environment that supports student academic achievement, through the provision of Federal assistance.
The amount available for Governor's sub-grants is estimated at $1,321,000. These funds are available on a competitive basis and shall be allocated and used in accordance with the priorities set forth in the Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities Act of 1994, and as amended by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.
