BATON ROUGE - Today, Governor John Bel Edwards announced his appointments to several Louisiana boards and commissions.

Gov. Edwards announced appointments to the following boards and commissions:

Ernest N. Morial-New Orleans Exhibition Authority

Peter Babin, III, of Slidell, was appointed to the Ernest N. Morial-New Orleans Exhibition Authority. Mr. Babin is on the Board of Directors for First NBC Bank in New Orleans and will serve as an at-large member. 

Edward L. Jacobs, Jr., of Slidell, was appointed to the Ernest N. Morial-New Orleans Exhibition Authority. Mr. Jacobs is the Vice President of the Highpointe Hotel Group’s New Orleans/Baton Rouge office and will serve as an at-large member.

Louisiana State Racing Commission

K.R. “Ron” Finkelstein, of Metairie, was appointed to the Louisiana State Racing Commission. Dr. Finkelstein is a Doctor of Optometry at Visionworks and a former owner of thoroughbred horses. Dr. Finkelstein will serve as the representative of the 1st Congressional District.

Judy Wagner, of New Orleans, was reappointed to the Louisiana State Racing Commission. Ms. Wagner is the Chair-Elect of the Association of Racing Commissioners International and will serve as the representative of the 2nd Congressional District.

Kenneth P. “Kenu” Romero, of New Iberia, was reappointed to the Louisiana State Racing Commission. Mr. Romero is a retired rice and crawfish farmer and will serve as the representative of the 3rd Congressional District.

Eric G. Johnson, of Minden, was appointed to the Louisiana State Racing Commission. Mr. Johnson is a partner at the John D. and Eric G. Johnson Law Firm and will serve as the representative of the 4th Congressional District.

Deano B. Thornton, of Winnfield, was appointed to the Louisiana State Racing Commission. Mr. Thornton is the CEO of Winn Community Health Center and will serve as the representative of the 5th Congressional District.

Louis S. Reine, of Baton Rouge, was appointed to the Louisiana State Racing Commission. Mr. Reine is the President of the Louisiana AFL-CIO and a breeder of quarter horses. Mr. Reine will serve as the representative of the 6th Congressional District.

Bob Wright, of New Orleans, was reappointed to the Louisiana State Racing Commission. Mr. Wright is a Managing Partner of Domengeaux, Wright, Roy, Edwards and Colomb. Mr. Wright will serve as the Chair of the Commission and the representative of Orleans Parish.

Donald Cravins Sr., of Arnaudville, was appointed to the Louisiana State Racing Commission. Mr. Cravins is the Owner of Don Cravins Insurance Inc., and the former Mayor of Opelousas.  Mr. Cravins will serve as the representative of St. Landry Parish.

Michael R. “Mike” McHalffey, of Benton, was reappointed to the Louisiana State Racing Commission. Mr. McHalffey is a certified residential real estate appraiser and will serve as the representative of Bossier Parish.

Benjamin J. Guilbeau Jr., of Lake Charles, was reappointed to the Louisiana State Racing Commission. Mr. Guilbeau is a partner at the Stockwell Law Firm and will serve as the representative of Calcasieu Parish.

Roy Hamilton “Hammy” Davis, of Lafayette, was reappointed to the Louisiana State Racing Commission. Mr. Hamilton will serve as an at-large member of the Commission.

Daniel R. “Danny” Trahan, of Maurice, was appointed to the Louisiana State Racing Commission. Mr. Trahan is a Facility Engineer at Chevron and an owner of quarter horses. Mr. Trahan will serve as an at-large member of the Commission.

Thomas B. “Tom” Calvert, of Madisonville, was appointed to the Louisiana State Racing Commission. Mr. Calvert is a self-employed attorney and will serve as an at-large member of the Commission.

Board of Regents

Thomas J. Henning, of Lake Charles, was appointed to the Board of Regents. Mr. Henning is a general business and commercial litigation attorney with Stockwell Sievert law firm in Lake Charles. Mr. Henning will serve as an at-large member.

North Lafourche Conservation, Levee, and Drainage District

Adley J. Peltier, of Thibodaux, was appointed to the North Lafourche Conservation, Levee, and Drainage District. Mr. Peltier is a Research Farm Manager with the LSU Agricultural Center.

State Mineral and Energy Board

Robert D. Watkins, of Robert, was appointed to the State Mineral and Energy Board. Mr. Watkins is a Certified Public Accountant and is Vice-President and Partner at Wegmann, Dazet and Co. in Covington.

New Orleans City Park Improvement Association

George “Ray” Seamon Jr., of Mandeville, was reappointed to the New Orleans City Park Improvement Association. Mr. Seamon is Senior Vice-President at First NBC Bank in New Orleans.

Southern Rail Commission

Dewitt Jerome Wall III, of St. Francisville, was appointed to the Southern Rail Commission. Mr. Wall served on the Southern High Speed Rail Commission, the predecessor of the Southern Rail Commission, from 2005 to 2010.

Walter J. Leger III, of New Orleans, was reappointed to the Southern Rail Commission. Representative Leger is a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives.

Board of Supervisors of Community and Technical Colleges

Willie L. Mount, of Lake Charles, was reappointed to the Board of Supervisors of Community and Technical Colleges. Ms. Mount is a former Louisiana State Senator and the former Mayor of Lake Charles. Ms. Mount will serve as a representative of the 3rd Congressional District.

Helen Bridges Carter, of Greensburg, was appointed to the Board of Supervisors of Community and Technical Colleges. Ms. Carter is a retired teacher and has devoted her life to education. Ms. Carter will serve as a representative of the state at-large.

Tensas Basin Levee District

Ben D. “Dick” Zeagler, of Jena, was appointed to the Tensas Basin Levee District. Mr. Zeagler is an Assistant Vice-President and Loan Officer at Homeland Federal Savings Bank. He will serve as the representative of LaSalle Parish.
