Gov. Edwards Announces Major Developments at the Northshore Technical Community College in Livingston

BATON ROUGE  Today, Gov. John Bel Edwards and Dr. Monty Sullivan, president of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS), announced the development of new state-of-the-art facility at the Northshore Technical Community College Advanced Technology Center located in Livingston Parish. The facility will enhance innovative workforce training supporting emerging technologies in the health sciences, information technology, and advanced manufacturing sectors. This new state of the art 20,000 square foot building will be a multi-use training facility supported by business and industry.

“We know that the demand for well trained and skilled workers will expand as business opportunities in Livingston Parish expand, which is why this new facility is going to be integral to the future economic development of this area,” said Gov. Edwards. “I am very proud of Dr. Sullivan and the LCTCS system for their work in making this a reality. It is the kind of investment in our students and communities that will pay off in more ways than one for generations to come.”

Industry contributors like Ferrara Fire Apparatus and public partnerships such as Livingston Economic Development, Livingston Tomorrow, Livingston Parish Government and Livingston Parish Schools have resulted in a project match of $699,000 to support the new campus.

"This new campus will provide access to life changing academic and workforce training for those who need it the most,” said Dr. Sullivan. “We are grateful to Governor Edwards for his continued commitment to and investment in workforce opportunities for the people of Louisiana."

The new campus will provide unique education and training programs that will support existing high school dual enrollment programs, customized training programs supportive of business and industry, and transfer programs in partnership with Southeastern Louisiana University. A 2010 study by the National Center for Higher Education Management Systems commissioned by the Louisiana Board of Regents indicated the need for investments in higher education and workforce training infrastructure in Livingston Parish to satisfy current and future demands for workforce development.

Northshore Technical Community College (NTCC) is a comprehensive college with a rich history of providing workforce training and academic pathways to regional universities for the greater Northshore region. The 2010 National Center for Higher Education Management Study acknowledged the increasing demand on the Northshore for higher education infrastructure specific to the fields of STEM – results led to the legislation to establish state-of-the-art facilities in Lacombe, Louisiana and Walker, Louisiana. In 2015, NTCC was recognized by the Brooking's Institute as the first in the nation for economic value of its graduates. Community College Weekly recognized NTCC in 2014 as sixth in the nation for fastest growth among community colleges of its size. As an ACT College and Career Readiness Exemplar, NTCC continues to provide relevant programs and timely responsiveness to local and regional industries.
