Broadband for Everyone in Louisiana
Reliable, high-speed internet is essential infrastructure for work, school, health care, public safety, and economic growth. Under Gov. Jeff Landry’s administration, Louisiana is accelerating broadband deployment statewide through a coordinated strategy led by ConnectLA, the state’s Office of Broadband Development and Connectivity, housed within the Louisiana Division of Administration.
What Broadband Means for Louisiana
Broadband is any connection that allows data to move quickly from the internet to your device. In Louisiana, broadband is defined as minimum speeds of 100 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload.
Expanding broadband helps ensure residents and businesses in rural communities have the same opportunities and connectivity as those living in major cities, strengthening Louisiana’s competitiveness and quality of life. High-speed internet also meets everyday needs and opens doors for families, businesses, and communities across Louisiana, including by:
- Giving students and educators reliable access to online learning, homework, and digital tools
- Improving access to telehealth, connecting families with providers and specialty care closer to home
- Powering local economies by enabling small businesses, remote work, and job growth statewide
How Louisiana is Expanding Access
GUMBO
Louisiana is expanding reliable, high-speed internet access statewide through the Granting Unserved Municipalities Broadband Opportunities (GUMBO) program, a coordinated effort led by ConnectLA to close remaining coverage gaps and connect unserved and underserved communities.
GUMBO is being delivered through two major phases — GUMBO 1.0 and GUMBO 2.0 — that support broadband deployment, prioritize cost-effective delivery, and maximize public investment.
The GUMBO program is designed to:
- Expand broadband infrastructure in areas that lack reliable service
- Coordinate statewide deployment efforts across parishes and regions
- Provide transparent tools and resources so residents and local leaders can track progress
How Louisiana is Leading the Way
Under Gov. Landry’s leadership, Louisiana is accelerating broadband deployment statewide by coordinating partners, funding, and oversight to expand service in unserved and underserved areas.
Louisiana is on track to achieve statewide high-speed internet access by 2028 — two years ahead of the federal goal — by moving projects efficiently from planning to construction and maintaining strong program accountability. Louisiana has also positioned itself as a national leader in broadband execution, pairing quick implementation with strong cost discipline.
Accomplishments and Progress
- 450,000 Louisianans now able to access high-speed internet since Gov. Landry took office, supported in part by public funding
- 93% of Louisiana currently served, up from 83% at the start of Gov. Landry’s administration
- $800 million identified in GUMBO 2.0 savings, maximizing taxpayer dollars and creating opportunities to reinvest in complementary initiatives that strengthen communities statewide
Major Milestones and Recognition
- First state in the country to receive award approval from the U.S. Treasury’s Capital Projects Fund (CPF)
- First state in the country to earn federal approval of its Broadband, Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) final proposal
- Top 10 nationally for share of households receiving fiber connectivity through BEAD and cost efficiencies under GUMBO 2.0
- Top ranked state for broadband program execution, according to the American Enterprise Institute (AEI)
